Then and Now: Paul Fuller

Paul Fuller’s journey with PTW began in January 2013 when he relocated from Ireland to Canada as part of Tarpon Energy’s (one of PTW’s legacy companies) Temporary Foreign Worker Program. This courageous move initiated a new chapter for him and his entire family, as his wife and two children joined him later that May. From the outset, it was clear that this transition would set the stage for a transformative career.

Starting as an Electrical Journeyman, he quickly demonstrated his dedication and leadership abilities. Paul ascended through the ranks, showcasing his technical skills and his capacity to inspire and uplift those around him. Over the years, he progressed through various positions, gaining invaluable experience as a Lead Hand, Foreman, General Foreman, Supervisor, and ultimately Site Project Manager. Even after Tarpon Energy merged with Pyramid and Warwick to form PTW, Paul continued to grow, continuously looking for ways to enhance his contributions to the team.

As he advanced through different roles, Paul honed essential leadership skills that have proven vital in his career. He articulates, “The higher you go, the more you realize that you’re not just managing the work—you’re managing the people who manage the work.” This perspective reflects Paul’s mindset that leadership is not merely about overseeing tasks but nurturing talent, building trust, and fostering an environment where diverse ideas can flourish. Paul firmly believes in open communication and collaboration, recognizing that engagement at every level leads to innovative solutions and a healthier workplace culture.

Central to Paul’s work philosophy is the belief that “You’re only as good as the people you have around you. No one runs jobs alone—it’s all about the team.” This mindset has resonated deeply throughout his career. Paul considers himself fortunate to have worked alongside exceptional colleagues across all levels. He emphasizes the importance of collective experience and camaraderie, which have been crucial in overcoming challenges and driving project success.

What keeps Paul motivated after more than a decade at PTW? The answer is simple: “The people,” he responds without hesitation, revealing the core of his professional fulfillment. His numerous friendships cultivated within PTW have provided him with support and inspiration.

Paul pointed to a particular instance when he faced a difficult period in his life when a family illness coincided with a challenging project launch. During this difficult period, Paul saw firsthand how supportive his site team was as they handled his responsibilities. “It meant a lot,” he says, highlighting the strong connections he’s built at work. This support allowed him to focus on his family while showing how vital teamwork is during challenging times, further fueling his passion for work and heightening his commitment to his team.

Beyond the professional sphere, Paul cherishes his time with his wife and two teenage sons. As a devoted Liverpool FC supporter, he finds joy in following his favourite team, adding another layer of connection to his family as they share these moments. Although his hobbies have evolved, his appreciation for quality family time and life’s simple pleasures remains steadfast.

Paul’s story is a compelling narrative of determination, teamwork, and adaptability. From his initial role as an Electrical Journeyman and his current position as a Site Project Manager, he exemplifies the importance of cultivating strong relationships, embracing opportunities for professional growth, and offering mutual support—both on and off the job site. His enduring career at PTW is a testament to the profound impact of collaboration and the remarkable outcomes that can be achieved through an exceptional team, proving that success is built on more than just technical knowledge; it’s built on people. This stands as a testament to the power of collaboration and the enduring impact of a remarkable team.
