Then and Now: Dave Leet
Dave Leet’s career began in January 2007 with Kent Steel, long before the company became part of PTW. Starting as a welder, his skills soon earned him a move into fitting, where he quickly demonstrated his skill and talent. Over time, Dave stepped into various roles, including roles within our prep department and shipping, while excelling in his roles—levelling skids, installing structural steel, and performing essential repairs.
Outside of work, Dave is a devoted family man who treasures time with his kids. Whether tinkering on something that needs fixing or enjoying the great outdoors, he’s always keeping busy. This past summer, he became an avid hiker, embracing the outdoors and exploring new trails.
When PTW acquired Kent Steel, Dave integrated seamlessly into the PTW family, continuing to grow alongside the company. In addition to his duties as a fitter and field welder, he serves as the on-site trainer for forklifts and overhead cranes, passing on his knowledge to others. He also plays a critical role in facility and equipment maintenance. Dave’s commitment to employee development is evident in his journey, where he has expanded his skill set to include crane, forklift, and bobcat operations while mastering the art of training and mentoring others.
Dave shares a key lesson reflecting on his career: “An important lesson I’ve learned is to look at every challenge as an opportunity to hone your skills or learn new ones.” This mindset has helped him thrive through changes in both the company and the industry.
One of the main reasons Dave has stayed with PTW is the people. “A major motivating factor for staying with the company for as long as I have is the people I work with. I’ve grown to trust many of them and enjoy taking on projects with them.” He also values PTW’s commitment to its employees, having weathered the industry’s ups and downs while the company continued to look out for its team.
Dave Leet’s story is one of adaptability, loyalty, and growth. His journey from Kent Steel to PTW showcases how a career can evolve in a supportive environment and how focusing on skill development and teamwork is beneficial but crucial for long-term success. Dave’s story underscores the value of teamwork in achieving long-term success.
